A UCaaS vs CCaaS conversation that starts with "we want one vendor" usually fails when the customer journey and the employee calling path need different owners. Shared identity and a CRM hook are not the same as one platform. Write the overlap first. Then decide what must stay separate.
That is why the live UCaaS vs CCaaS decision framework separates employee communications from customer interactions before anyone compares logos. This post does not replace that page. It is a supporting note on why a single-vendor ask is not the requirement.

What the public case is actually about
A Telarus "Inside the Win" write-up describes a CX evaluation that began with one vendor that could do calling, contact center, and a Teams-shaped workflow, plus a hard CRM integration. Later the buyer split the work across two vendors. The published MRR and bank details are theirs, not ours.
Use it as a requirements example only: write which workflows are employee, which are customer, which integrations are shared, and whether one contract would force a bad fit. It is not a Data Partner engagement, not a TDP win, and not a recommendation of Teams, Fiserv, or any named CCaaS brand.
What to add to the framework
Before a demo, fill these rows:
- Employee path: calling, meetings, devices, who administers users.
- Customer path: journeys, routing, channels, supervisor and quality work.
- Shared layer: identity, devices, network, recording, CRM.
- Timing: number porting, contracts, and whether the two rollouts can move on different clocks.
- Owner: who can accept a split stack if one vendor cannot do both well.

The UCaaS and CCaaS assessment is the companion for turning those rows into a conversation, not a substitute for the overlap guide.
Questions that belong in the first meeting
Ask the provider to show, not describe:
- A recorded customer interaction opened from the CRM record, and a separate employee call path.
- What breaks if identity or the CRM token expires.
- Who owns recording retention for employees versus customers.
- What a split-vendor support ticket looks like when call quality fails.
- Whether they can keep UCaaS and CCaaS on different timelines without a forced bundle.
If they cannot show those, they are selling a brand, not a UCaaS vs CCaaS fit.

What not to do
Do not treat a podcast as a TDP case study. Do not paste MRR or "one throat to choke" sales language onto this site.
Write the overlap. Then compare.
